A Kildare judge imposed an order banning a woman from owning any dogs for the next five years.
Judge Desmond Zaidan made the ruling at Naas District Court on Thursday, January 12, in the case of Fiona Fennessy, with an address listed as 12 Ashbrook, Derrinturn in Carbury.
It was heard that on December 30, 2018 at around 12pm in Ashgrove, Derrinturn, the 43-year-old’s dog, a German Shepherd, ended up attacking and killing a local resident’s Jack Russell dog.
Gardaí said that Ms Fennessy’s dog was later euthanised as a result of the attack.
Defending solicitor Joe Coonan said that the dog actually belonged to another person, but Judge Zaidan remarked that he was only dealing with Ms Fennessy.
Gardaí also said that Ms Fennessy had three previous convictions, with the last one was from 2004, but added that these convictions would not factor into this case.
Judge Zaidan imposed a fine of €700 on Ms Fennessy; €350 for not having a dog licence, and another €350 for not being able to control her dog.
He added that he would impose an order banning her from owning any dogs for five years.
