UPDATE: Progress report on business park planned for North Kildare

Kildare County Council was previously warned by one councillor that a ‘mass exodus’ of businesses was on the way in Kilcock. Pictured is the council’s HQ at Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park in Naas.

A progress report on the planned Kilcock Business Park was given to councillors at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting on Friday, February 3.

The update was requested by Fine Gael Cllr Tim Durkan.

In its update, Kildare County Council said: "Following a tender process, consultants were appointed by KCC in January 2023 to carry out a land use feasibility study on lands at Duncreevan in Kilcock to examine their suitability for commercial/industrial use.

ASSESSMENT

"The economic development unit conducted an initial meeting with the consultants on January 26 to discuss the brief and work schedule for the study."

KCC continued: "The consultants will carry out a number of tasks as part of a technical examination of the site to assess its suitability.

"There will also be an opportunity for the relevant stakeholders to engage with the consultants during the study, once a more defined work program timeline is approved, we will notify the members."

BACKGROUND

Just under a year ago, Cllr Durkan said that a 'mass exodus' of businesses could be on the way in Kilcock.

"It is the only town in North Kildare that has no proper industrial park, despite its massive growth.

"Businesses are leaving at a rapid rate... there 100 per cent needs to be support from KCC over this issue, as businesses cannot hold out for much longer."
