KILDARE: Large lorries should be banned from Naas

No quickfire ban on heavy lorries from Naas town centre

Large trucks should be banned from Naas town centre.

Local councillor Bill Clear said too many big lorries are going through Naas - rather than stopping to make deliveries to local businesses.

He said he observed 12 of these vehicles on the street in a 20 minute period.

“This is not safe, especially at school times,” told a Naas Municipal District meeting.

He added that these lorries can use the ring road around Naas or the motorway with three exits.

According to Kildare County Council this HGV ban should be considered as part of the overall road reclassification process for Naas.

This will include the upgrading of approximately 135 signs across 20 junctions with an estimated cost of in excess of €200,000.

It was also pointed out that there are significant signage requirements for a truck ban in Naas that will need to be considered at all 20 junctions - and both resources and funding will need to be identified to progress this scheme.
