Kildare hotel is first in Ireland to use robot to serve customers

Kildare hotel introduces robot to serve customers

Staff in the Glenroyal Hotel getting the robot ready to serve food

A Kildare hotel is using a robot to serve food to customers.

Galway man Malachy Ryan has brought Bear Robotics to Ireland in order to help solve problems in the hospitality and senior care industries.

The first robot has been installed The Glenroyal in Maynooth, with many other hotels as well as nursing homes across Ireland interested in the product. The Irish launch comes at a time when staff shortages are a consistent problem in the hospitality industry as well as the constant spread of infections throughout nursing homes.

Bear Robotics already has a presence in North America with over 9,000 robots in restaurants, corporate campuses, ghost kitchens, senior living facilities, casinos, and med device and automotive factories. Bear Robotics is expanding into Europe and has a presence in Iceland and now, Ireland.

The vision for Bear Robotics is to be globally recognized as the leader in automating the hospitality and goods moving processes; to help free up staff to carry out more productive and higher value-add roles in their organisations.

Malachy Ryan, Head of Sales EMEA with Bear Robotics, said:

“I’m delighted our Bear Robotics HQ for Europe is in Ireland. Our first robot has been installed in The Glenroyal Hotel in Maynooth and further robots will be rolled out across Ireland and Europe over the next three to four months. We’re talking to four and five star hotels as well as restaurants and nursing homes across the country. Bear Robotics is responding to what businesses need.

Our robot Servi helps staff to do their jobs more efficiently and helps make conditions more pleasant. Servi is suitable for restaurants and nursing homes in terms of delivering food to tables and to rooms. For example, Servi will reduce mundane tasks for staff like carrying dishes to and from the kitchen to tables that are on the other side of the restaurant or down long corridors in nursing homes.

We’ve seen over the last few years that there’s a huge staff shortage problem in the hospitality sector. We want to bring the best service possible to businesses in these industries and elevate their customers experiences. There is a fear that staff will be replaced by robots but they are there to lend an extra helping hand.”

Paul Joy, General Manager, Glenroyal Hotel and Leisure Club, Maynooth said:

“The robot is something very unique to us. Guests get a great kick out of it and it’s great to see some of their reactions. A lot of them have been taking out their phones and recording the robot serve their food. It’s fun and the staff love it too. It makes their lives an awful lot easier as there’s a lot less running back and forth to the kitchen. Overall, it’s been a brilliant addition for us here at The Glenroyal Hotel and Leisure Club.”
