Cllr highlights importance of the affects of climate change at Kildare County Council meeting

Cllr Noel Heavey, Fianna Fáil

The harmful effects of climate change were highlighted by a councillor at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which was held on Wednesday, March 15.

Fianna Fáil’s Cllr Noel Heavey put forward the following motion at the latest meeting: "Can the council confirm when the Feasability Study Report to build a Centre of Excellence for Climate Change and Sustainability in Saint Conleth’s Square, Newbridge will be made available to members?"

In response, Kildare County Council told Cllr Heavey that a copy of the Draft Feasibility Study Report was issued to the elected members for their information via the members online portal.

The council added: "From further discussion with Cllr Heavey, an Executive Summary of the Report is now requested.

"The Report is currently at Draft stage; an Executive Summary could be included as part of the final Report."

'CLIMATE CHANGE WILL AFFECT EVERYONE'

Cllr Heavey said that there was 'a glaring need' for the Report.

He also said that it should be summarised as best as possible, adding: "The draft is comprehensive, but my fear is that it will be placed on the shelf to gather dust."

Cllr Heavey concluded: "Climate change will affect everyone, and people need to be aware of that."
