Warning not to engage with new phone fraudsters masquerading as Gardaí

People warned not to engage with new phone scam by fraudsters pretending to be Gardaí

An Garda Síochána has issued a warning about a new phone scam.

According to Gardaí, a call will appear as a legitimate number but when answered you will hear an automated voice claiming to be from the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau.

The voice will claim there have been suspicious transactions on your bank account and you will be prompted to 'Dial 1' and so on to provide bank details.

People should be advised this is not An Garda Síochána as they do not make contact in this way.

Gardaí ask people to please be wary of unsolicited and automated calls, and if you do take one it is best to stop and think before engaging.
