Oldtown Gardens, Naas
The opening of Oldtown Gardens, part of the former De Burgh estate off Sallins Road in Naas, has moved a little closer.
Kildare County Council intends to tender for a preparation of a conservation plan for the area and to have this completed by the end of this year.
Responding to Cllr Colm Kenny, KCC official Simon Wallace added that this will inform the preparation of a masterplan in 2024.
A Naas Municipal District meeting also heard that a tender to resurface paths in the gardens will also be prepared this year “with the aim of having an accessible perimeter route of the garden and to facilitate opening the garden on a trial basis to the public next year.”
He added that this may involve having to also provide a new or temporary bridge over the stream running through the garden. In the interim it is proposed to continue the guided tours of the garden over the Summer.
Some 15 acres of the lands off Sallins Road, which include water features and walkways are effectively in public ownership.
The lands were transferred to the then Naas Town Council in 2011.
