KILDARE COURT: Drunk man broke partner's door while picking up child

Roles reversed in Naas Courthouse as solicitors told what to do

Naas Courthouse

An intoxicated man broke the door of this partner’s home while picking up his child, Naas District Court heard.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan told the court that the gardaí were contacted by the partner who claimed he was on his way to pick up the child and he was intoxicated.

Sgt Hanrahan added that the defendant was verbally abusive on February 12 at an address in Naas and threatened to smash windows.

He added that the man was abusive to the gardaí when they arrived at the scene.

The defendant kicked the door and broke it and the court heard that he has made payments towards repairing the door.

The defendant, who has 12 convictions under the Public Order Act and two for criminal damage, was the subject of a probation report which indicated he has been abstaining from alcohol and drugs.

Solicitor Tim Kennelly said the defendant’s relationship with his partner has broken down and he was concerned because he was not getting as much access to the child as he had.

Mr Kennelly said the defendant's daughter did not witness any of the incident.

Judge Desmond Zaidan warned the defendant not to appear in front of him again. He added that but for the probation report he would send him to jail.

He was fined €500.
