Speed feedback signs on the way for Brannockstown, County Kildare

Following the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, speed feedback signs are due for Brannockstown.

Fine Gael councillor Tracey O’Dwyer motioned to Kildare County Council (KCC) ‘to carry out an assessment on the possible effectiveness of installing Flashing Feedback Speed Signs in Brannockstown’ at the meeting, which was held on Wednesday, April 19 last.

She told KCC: “Speed is an ongoing concern in all our small towns and villages.

"Extensive works were carried out by KCC in Brannockstown to address speeding through the village, and speed bumps were installed at the junction in Brannockstown village which have proved very successful and made the junction much safer.

"However, vechiles are still speeding on the Dunlavin road into the village, and unfortunately in the last year a resident of Brannockstown village was knocked down within the village boundary on this section of road."

Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer put forward the motion at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting.

She also cited the success of similar signs which were installed at Athgarvan and Two Mile House.

Her motion was seconded by Sinn Féin Cllr Noel Connolly.

When KCC told Cllr O'Dwyer that no funding was in place to install the flashing signs, she managed to secure Local Property Tax funding, with members agreement, to secure the installation of the infrastructure (in addition to match funding from the Kildare-Newbridge MD Office).

Speaking after the meeting, Cllr O'Dwyer said: "I am delighted with the outcome and it will be a very welcomed relief for residents that their concerns around speed have been addressed."
