KILDARE: Irish Water responds to reports of strange-tasting water in Newbridge and Athy

Irish Water/Uisce Éireann has responded to reports of strange-tasting and strange-smelling water in Newbridge, as well as Athy.

When asked about the reports by the Leinster Leader, a spokesperson for Irish Water said: "I have checked with our Regional Water Operations Team who have advised that there are customers reporting taste and odour issues mainly in the Newbridge and Athy Areas.

"Stale Water, Long Service Leads, Internal plumbing issues, Algae or Organic Substances may cause taste and odour issues in some people’s homes.

"Operations are satisfied the Treatment Plants supplying water to customers in these areas are operating satisfactorily with no known issues."

The spokesperson added: "Customers experiencing taste or odour issues can find out more information on what may cause localised or private side issues by visiting our website at https://www.water.ie/help/water-quality/unusual-taste-or-smell/.

"If the taste or smell persists customers can contact us on 1800 278 278 for further investigation," they concluded.
