Four brand new electric vehicle (EV) charging points will be installed in Maynooth.
The news was announced by Kildare County Council (KCC) at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which was held on Friday, May 5.
At the meeting, Green Party councillor Peter Hamilton asked KCC 'to provide an update on the direction and planning for EV charging in Maynooth supporting the Maynooth Decarbonising Zone objectives.'
He also asked KCC to 'outline its role in the provision of EV charging points for mature apartment complexes in this municipal district, supporting the Maynooth Decarbonising Zone objectives, to include any liaison with the agencies, council, Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland and management companies.'

In response to his first question, KCC said that the four EV charging points would be situated in the council car park at the Glenroyal.
"KCC are awaiting a design from ESB networks to carry out the civil works," the council added.
In relation to his second question, KCC said: "Having consulted with various departments, the council has no remit in this."
