Newbridge
A young man who was involved in the theft of a quantity of perfume as a teen from the Debenhams store in Newbridge appeared before Naas District Court.
The young man, who was aged 14 at the time was seen on CCTV at the perfume department with three others on January 28, 2017.
The court heard that the perfume, which was valued at €2,000, was not recovered and the defendant had not been in trouble since then.
The court was also told that it is not known what happened to the others involved in the incident.
Defending solicitor Brian Larkin said the man was “hanging around with a different crowd” at the time.
He is now aged 20.
Judge Desmond Zaidan commented that if the case was dealt with at the time the defendant may have ended up in the juvenile detention centre at Oberstown, County Dublin.
The judge added the defendant as lucky that so much time has passed and he had not done anything wrong since then.
He applied the Probation Act.
