A service station based in County Kildare had said that incorrect fuel was distributed at its pumps on Saturday last.
Circle K Ireland made the announcement on its offical Twitter (also known as X) account earlier today.
The company said in a Twitter thread: "On Saturday, July 29, between the hours of 2pm to 7pm at our Circle K Kill North Service Station (on northbound lane of N7, W91 XF97), all petrol pumps at this service station were impacted by an isolated incident where diesel was inadvertently delivered into a petrol underground-storage tank.
"Having reviewed CCTV and sales data, we know up to 87 customers may have been impacted by this issue.
"As soon as the issue became apparent, petrol pumps at the forecourt were immediately closed and Circle K launched an investigation to establish how this occurred."
Circle K continued: "The issue at the site has since been resolved, with all pumps at the forecourt now operating normally. At Circle K, we stand by and guarantee the quality of our fuel, and we would like to reassure all customers that this was an isolated incident.
"Circle K would like to apologise to all impacted customers.
"We have opened a dedicated customer hotline for anyone who believes they might have been impacted by this issue, to support them in rectifying any problems they may have with their vehicles."
The company added that it is 'ready to assist impacted customers to resolve any issues as quickly as possible and would like to assure them that we will assist them with any potential claim.'
Circle K concluded its statement by saying: "Call one of the following numbers (if you cannot get through, please leave your contact details in a voice message and we will return the call as soon as possible) on: 087 103 4125, 01 202 8768, 01 202 8762, 01 202 8888, or email talk2us.support@circlekeurope.com."
