A talk discussing the underwater world of the North Atlantic will take place at the Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge.

'INTO THE DEEP: Stories of exploring the underwater world of the North Atlantic' will feature underwater cameraman, documentary filmmaker and ocean conservationist Ken O’Sullivan.

Ken will talk about everything from freediving with blue whales, the largest animal ever to have lived, to filming sharks, dolphins, and the magical underwater world around Ireland and his family’s 250-year history on Fenit Island in County Kerry.

Speaking about this new tour, Ken said: "I’m thrilled at the prospect of spending time speaking to local Irish audiences about our amazing, fertile seas around Ireland and my own personal experiences filming whales, sharks, dolphins, jellyfish and much more."

Ken has been an underwater cameraman and documentary film maker for eighteen years, producing documentaries that tell stories from ocean world around Ireland.

His most recent documentary for RTÉ, 'North Atlantic - The Dark Ocean', has been nominated for several awards this year including Best Feature in the International Wildlife Film Festival and Best Film in the Wildlife Film Festival, Rotterdam.

Inspired by the spirit of adventure of early explorers like St Brendan the Navigator, Ken voyages out into the open North Atlantic in search of the great sea monsters described in the explorers’ early texts which may well have been large whales.

His 2019 book Stories from the Deep is critically-acclaimed for its lyrical writing and descriptions of nature and animal encounters, as well as Ken’s honesty about his life as a film maker.

Over the course of jis career, Ken has produced and filmed seventeen documentaries winning awards all around the globe which have been broadcast in twenty-five countries.

He has also worked as a cameraman for the BBC Natural History Unit.
