A man facing an allegation of sharing intimate images of his sister on social media platforms has been sent for trial at Naas Circuit Court.
The man faces three allegations of distributing or publishing intimate images on three occasions - between dates in February 2020 and June 2021, in July 2021 and in May 2021 - contrary to the Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offence Act.
Sgt Dave Hanrahan told a previous Naas District Court sitting that a large number of images of the man’s sister were shared.
Detective Garda Paul Feely had told the court it will be alleged that the defendant got the pictures off the injured party’s phone.
The defendant has pleaded not guilty.
The court heard that the images were distributed on the Kik, Reddit and Instagram sites.
The defendant was accompanied to court by his mother.
Judge Joanne Carroll said that if the defendant intends to use an alibi as part of his defence then details of this must be provided to the prosecution.
The judge also directed that copies of the interviews given by the defendant in custody are to go to the defence.
The judge said he should have no contact with the injured party and she extended the legal aid order to facilitate the provision of a barrister.
