Lorcán O'Rourke, a well-known resident of Newbridge who previously served as the Club President of Moorefield GAA Club, has sadly passed away.
Lorcán passed away peacefully on Saturday last, surrounded by his loving family in the care of the staff in the Lynn Ward, Tallaght University Hospital, after a long illness.
He will be remembered for his passionate involvement in his local community, as well as his diligence and work with Kildare GAA, Moorefield GAA club, and Irish Handball.
According to the official website of Moorefield GAA Club, Lorcán was also 'the driving force' behind the publication of the club's history book, Moorefield GAA Club – Our Club, Our Town 1884- 2014.'
In addition, Lorcán previously served in the Defence Forces, and notably played in the All-Ireland Juvenile Hurling Final in Birmingham in 1966.
His brother is veteran RTÉ broadcaster Seán O'Rourke.
Multiple tributes have been left to Lorcán on the website RIP.ie — one person, Joe Rossiter, wrote: "A gentleman in every way. May he rest in peace. We joined up together, served overseas at the same time and I held him in great respect."
Another message, which was left by Tom and Trish Corry, said about the late Lorcán: "Sincere condolences to Phil, Aoife, Enda and the extended family on the sad passing of Lorcán.
"He was one of life's gentlemen. A great family man and a passionate GAA and Moorefield man. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace."
Lorcán is predeceased by his son Ciarán and his brother Brian.
He was the beloved husband of Phil (née Brereton), loving father of Aoife and Enda, and grandfather to Donal, Bláthnaid, Tess and Clodagh.
Lorcán will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by his adoring family, brothers Fr Caoimhín SJ, Fran, Ger and Seán, sisters Mary and Anne, daughter-in-law Éadaoin and her sons Cillian and Dáire, Aoife’s partner Dave, daughter-in law-Catherine, brothers-in-law and sisters-in- law, nieces, nephews, extended family members, neighbours and a large circle of friends.
