A Naas District Court defendant was caught with his pants down by gardaí — literally.
The man appeared via video-link before the court on Thursday, September 21, as he is currently serving a custodial sentence on other matters.
Gardaí told Judge Desmond Zaidan that they discovered the man outside of a property in Kildare at night-time, unconscious, with his pants pulled down.
"He was caught short, Judge," one garda said, explaining that he had been in the process of trying to go to the toilet and had fallen asleep.
When the judge asked the man if he had any memory of the event, the man replied: "I don't, no, but I'll plead guilty anyway."
It was heard that the man had 50 previous convictions, some of which include convictions for failure to appear at court, burglary and public order.
Judge Zaidan told the man: "I feel embarrased for you."
He also said that because the man is in custody at present, he would not be in a position to pay a fine, so he instead applied the Probation Act.
