The fire station located in The Curragh should remain operational.

That's according to Sinn Féin councillor Noel Connolly.

Cllr Connolly made the comments at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which was held on Wednesday, September 20.

He motioned at the meeting for the members of the MD to write to the Minister for Defence, 'asking him to ensure the Fire Station and Fire Service at the Curragh remains operational and that its future be guaranteed.'

A representative of Kildare County Council told those in attendance that the fire station falls under the remit of the Department of Defence.

Cllr Connolly's motion was put to a vote, which passed, meaning that the MD office will follow through on his proposed motion.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Anne Connolly abstained from the vote.
