An addiction to prescription drugs was blamed for a woman’s children expressing an intention to die by suicide.
Naas District Court was told by the woman’s partner, who was not in court, that she overdosed on prescribed medication and was hospitalised.
Her partner said she has refused treatment and “I’m afraid of what she’ll do to the kids”, adding he would leave if she does not get help.
He expressed the fear that she would obtain a barring order against him and he said the problem was going on for a number of years.
“I fear the kids will do something or she will do something to them or to herself,” he told Judge Miriam Walsh.
He added that all of the family went to her but she took no action and he said she uses painkillers and different drugs.
“It will end in tragedy,” he said adding, he came to court on the advice of a superintendent.
The matter was put back to November 13 for an application for a safety order to be made.
