KILDARE: Naas library 'should go to community use when the new building opens'

No plans yet for the Naas library building

The Naas library building

The library building in Naas should be used by community groups - once it closes to make way for the new library and cultural centre at Naas Town Hall.

Local councillor Bill Clear says there is an "acute shortage of community spaces in Naas."

He wants Kildare County Council to reconsider using the building to house the county archives.

"We have many community groups without a home including Naas Women's Shed, Down Syndrome Ireland, Alzheimer
Cafe to name but a few."

Cllr Clear said the archives could be located elsewhere at a venue "that might be more suitable for this type of storage."
