Retired shopkeeper behind famous shop in Newbridge is laid to rest

The death has occurred of a member of the Murtagh family behind a popular, long-established shop in Newbridge.

Murtagh’s Shop on Roseberry Road in Newbridge operated for 44 years from 1969 to 2013.

Christy Murtagh of Dunmurray Court, Kildare Town passed away peacefully at Naas Hospital on Wednesday surrounded by his loving family.

Christy was a brother of the late Charlie, Ted, Tommy and Breda.

He is sadly missed by his loving wife Madeline, sons Christum, Padraig, Frankie and Aidan as well as grandchildren Tadhg, Èadaoin, Saoirse, Aishlinn and Darragh, brothers Billy, Peter and John, sister Mary, sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends.

Requiem Mass is taking place at St. Brigid's Parish Church, Kildare Town on Friday morning with burial afterwards in St. Conleth's Cemetery, Kildare Town.
