A Green Party councillor for the Clane-Maynooth Municipal District (MD) has claimed that Maynooth ‘has a lurking infrastructure problem.'

Cllr Peter Hamilton made the comments while attending the latest MD meeting on Friday, October 6 last.

He asked Kildare County Council for an 'update on any dialogue or communications process with ESB Networks and/or Eirgrid to align plans for the growth of the town and increased use of sustainable electric energy for transport and heating with the capacity of the grid, network and substations serving the town?'

When he was told by KCC that ESB Networks (and other relevant organisations) would have to be invited to attend a steering group to inform the process.

Cllr Hamilton said that while he accepted this, he stressed 'how tight our (the council's) energy has to be (on this issue.'

He added: "Maynooth is growing and has a lurking infrastructure problem. but it's good to see the issue is being looked at."
