An update on litter fines with the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) was requested by a local councillor.
Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer made the request via a question put forward to Kildare County Council (KCC) at the latest MD meeting, which was held on Wednesday, October 18 last.
Specifically, she asked KCC to provide an update on how many litter fines have been successfully pursued in both 2022 and 2023 within the MD.
In response, a representative for KCC told Cllr O'Dwyer that 223 fines have been issued.

The representative for KCC added: "95 cases have been successfully concluded, which makes up 42 per cent of cases.
"A number of appeals of these fines are also ongoing."
They also noted that some of those who received fines are repeat offenders.
Speaking to the Leinster Leader after the meeting, Cllr O'Dwyer explained that she initially requested the information after submitting on three occasions proof of identification and illegal dumping in the same area.
Cllr O'Dwyer also said that she was 'prepared to go to court if necessary to stop the offender.'
