Kildare gardaí allege Naas resident was hiding suspected diamorphine worth €6,720 in satchel and rucksack

The allegations were detailed at Naas Courthouse on Thursday, November 9 last.

Gardaí based in County Kildare have alleged that a male Naas resident was hiding suspected diamorphine.

The allegations relate to one Joe Butler, of 87 Lacken View in Naas, who appeared at Naas District Court on Thursday, November 9 last.

Judge Desmond Zaidan was told by gardaí present in the court that the 42-year-old was allegedly spotted on the Blessington Road in Naas on June 19, 2021.

It was alleged that gardaí noticed that he was carrying a satchel and a rucksack.

Mr Butler allegedly attempted to evade gardaí, and they claim that they saw him discard the satchel and rucksack into some nearby bushes.

When gardaí eventually stopped and searched Mr Butler, they allege that they found €2,725 in cash on his person.

They added that they allegedly discovered a further €744.26 inside the rucksack, and '30 deal bags of suspected diamorphine, or heroin,' in the satchel.

Gardaí allege that the suspected value of the diamorphine is €6,720.

After a book of evidence was served on the accused by gardaí, Judge Zaidan sent the case involving Mr Butler forward for trial to the present sittings of Naas Circuit Criminal Court.
