Kildare County Council (KCC) will soon transfer it’s Machinery Yard in Newbridge over to Naas.

The revelation was made at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which was held on Thursday, November 16 last.

Back in March, KCC outlined its plans for the Machinery Yard, and noted in its report at the time that 'plans for the migration of machinery yard operations are also progressing.'

At the latest MD meeting, the topic came up after Fine Gael councillor Peggy O’Dwyer asked KCC for an update on its Machinery Yard, which is located on the Military Road in Newbridge.

KCC told Cllr O’Dwyer via its report that it is anticipated that the Machinery Yard will transfer from its current location to Naas during the course of 2024.

"Plans for the future use of the Machinery Yard will be determined once it is no longer being used by the Transport Department," KCC added.

Cllr O’Dwyer replied that she would like to see the area 'given back to the community (of Newbridge)’'

She suggested that a swimming pool or a playground could be placed on the vacated site in place of the council’s current Machinery Yard.
