Major pharmacy chain announces new online emergency contraception service

Major pharmacy chain announces new online emergency contraception service

Previously available in-store only, patients can now complete an online booking

THE EMERGENCY Contraception Service is now available online at Boots and is free of charge for those aged 17 to 30 years or those with a Medical Card, for other patients a private fee will apply.

Previously available in-store only, patients can now complete an online booking with a pre-consultation form in advance of attending their local pharmacy store.

The new online process for those who may need it is expected to benefit patients who can now complete a large portion of the service before visiting the pharmacy, minimising the time patients spend in store.

To book online, patients should visit HERE.

Once the pre-consultation form is submitted and booking confirmed, they can attend their preferred pharmacy store to complete the pharmacist consultation and collect the medication.

Commenting on the updated service, Caoimhe McAuley, director of pharmacy and superintendent pharmacist at Boots said; “We hope the enhanced process increases the convenience of access for women needing to avail of this service, which we can in turn provide free of charge due to the ongoing extension of eligible groups for the Health Service Executive (HSE) Free Contraception Scheme.”

For further information on the HSE free contraception scheme visit the HSE sexual wellbeing site HERE.
