Kildare County Council turns down junction boxes at two estates

Leixlip politician says people 'are not happy' with water supply

Leixlip

Kildare County Council has turned down a request for junction boxes at two locations.

A request for yellow boxes outside Oldtown Woods in Celbridge and Barnhall in Leixlip, was made by  Cllr Nuala Killeen “to facilitate safe departure from these estates.”

KCC engineer Donal Hodgins said the primary function of yellow boxes is to facilitate the exit of vehicles from a higher priority road on to a lower priority road.

This is to “minimise the possibility of queuing back that may affect the crossflow of a significant junction.”

He added the Oldtown Wood entrance is 230 metres from the Shackleton Road, Oldtown Road signalised junction (and) “there is no evidence queuing is being caused by vehicles trying to enter Oldtown Wood.”

He also said the entrance to Barnhall Meadows off the R404 Celbridge Road in Leixlip is now fully signalised. “There is no obvious area where a yellow box could improve the functionality of this junction,” he added.
