A total of €1,156,960 in additional funding has been confirmed for the planned St Conleths Park redevelopment in Newbridge.

The extra funding will come from the the government's Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund.

This funding is in addition to €4,875,000 that was previously allocated from the fund to allow works at St Conleths Park to commence.

The announcement was welcomed by Fine Gael TD for Kildare South, Martin Heydon, who said: "This additional funding is a great boost to Kildare GAA in their ongoing redevelopment of St Conleths Park in Newbridge.

"In the current economic climate, the government have recognised the significant impact of rising construction costs and inflation on large scale projects such as St Conleths Park and acknowledged the need for additional Government support and assistance."

He continued: "I recently visited the construction site at St Conleths Park and saw at first hand the amazing work that is transforming our county grounds.

"The new stand is in place with the roof now on and plans are going well for an opening later next year.

"It is an exciting time for Kildare GAA with our club teams also doing us proud on the national stage.

"Well done to all the volunteers with Kildare GAA County Board for their ongoing work on this project."

"I am really looking forward to seeing a completed St Conleths Park next year and getting back to support our club and county teams there," Mr Heydon TD concluded.

The additional funding was welcomed by Martin Heydon TD (Fine Gael).

Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O'Loughlin similarly welcomed the news.

She said: "This morning, my colleague the Minister for Sport Thomas Byrne announced 'Top-Up' grant allocations to existing projects under the Large-Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund.

"After touring the site with the Minister recently and pushing hard behind the scenes, I am delighted to say that €1,156,960 has been sanctioned by the Department to support the project.

Senator O'Loughlin added: "St Conleths is very special to the people of Kildare."

"The redevelopment project is progressing well and the plan is to host next year’s County finals in St Conleths Park next October," she concluded.
