Cllr Naoise Ó Cearúil (Fianna Fáil).

A tourism campaign is needed for the town of Maynooth.

That's according to Fianna Fáil councillor Naoise Ó Cearúil, who made the comments at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting on Friday, December 1 last.

Cllr Ó Cearúil urged Kildare County Council (KCC) to 'work with Kildare Fáilte and Local Businesses to develop a tourism  campaign for Maynooth.'

In response, KCC said that it is currently recruiting for a Tourism Activator Role, which is co funded by áailte Ireland under Just Transition, as well as KCC itself.

KCC added: "We anticipate the successful candidate under the guidance of the Economic Development Department will be in a position to commence the role early February.

"Part of their remit is to work with local businesses and community groups to identify tourism opportunities in Maynooth and to access funding to realise suitable projects."
