Naas Town Hall
A window which is over a century old and was part of Naas Town Hall is to be incorporated in the new -soon-to-be-opened €6m library and cultural centre.
Cllr Anne Breen said local historian Mick Mulvey’s research indicated that the circular window was installed during major renovation there in 1904.It features a dozen spokes coming from a central hub.
According to Kildare County Council official Gillian Allen, it was rediscovered during the conservation works on the original gaol entrance. The window had been bricked up during previous renovation
projects in the 1990s and was in poor condition when uncovered. The window has undergone conservation work including restoring the original glass that remained and matching it with suitable replacement glass under the supervision of conservation architect Michael Lysaght.
The window could not remain in its original location because of the restoration of the gaol archway which precedes it and is of more historic significance. The decision was taken to move the window to the second floor of the building to the chamber “where it is located for everyone to see and will be a significant feature of the new library and cultural centre.”
