Concerns have been raised over traffic calming measures that may no longer be fit for purpose, according to one Kildare county councillor.

Mayor of Newbridge and Fianna Fáil Cllr Noel Heavey brought up his concerns to Kildare County Council (KCC) at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting back on Wednesday, December 13.

He motioned for KCC to upgrade speed calming measures on the Curragh Grange Road linking the Green Road to the Athgarvan Road in Newbridge.

Mayor Heavey’s motion was seconded by Sinn Féin Cllr Noel Connolly.

KCC told Cllr Heavey: "There are existing pedestrian crossings at the Athgarvan junction, footpaths the full length of the road and speed cushions on the existing road.

"Further to our site meeting last week, the Municipal District Office agreed to look at the speed cushions and upgrading of (the) same, subject to this not causing drainage issues."

"All works are subject to budget availability," KCC added.

However, Mayor Heavey told KCC that local residents feel that the measures are 'no longer fit for purpose.'

He also raised the suggestion of installing a raised table in the area to KCC.
