Kildare dancers win Irish open titles

Members from Monasterevin’s  Morrissey School of Irish Dancing in took part in the  Irish Open Championships 2023.

Dancers ranging from 5 to 45 took to the stage to perform in the beginners to intermediate sections and many took first place in their solo competitions along with a huge number of podium positions.

 “Seeing all our dancers cheer each other on sidestage creating memories and friendships to last a lifetime something that makes us burst with pride, ” said dance teacher Mary Morrissey.

“We see the hard work and dedication that goes on week in week out with these dancers and their parents. So to see them on the big stage, having the time of their lives is just amazing.”

The  winners were: Evie Drennan Kelly (under seven); Martin Wynne (under 6), Heidi Meredith (under 7), Kerrie Delaney (over 40), Sophie Keenan (under 11), Amy Lynch (under 13),  Zoe Cullen (under 25) and Corinna Furlong (over 35).

Meanwhile 10 year old Rosie Kennedy has won consecutive open championships between 2021 and 2023 as well as two All-Ireland and international titles.
