Naas Town Hall
The long waited new library has opened this morning in Naas.
Situated in the town hall building in the middle of the town, it is known as a Naas Library and Cultural Centre and was developed at a cost of some €6m.
It is a highly impressive project and ideally suited to that building because the town hall has been underutilised for some years. It no longer accommodated any Kildare County Council offices.
The chamber hosted meeting of Naas Town Council and its predecessor Naas Urban District Council for many many years and staff assigned to to those local authorities were based there.
However town councils were abolished everywhere in Ireland in 2014.
It will cater for adults and young people with the necessary resources to accommodate, recreational, information, cultural and educational needs in an inviting and modern space.
There will be a multifunctional children’s library which will provide various media and also provide wet facilities for cultural activities, IT services, access to digital technologies, console stations and toddler storytelling zone.
A digital suite will support digital skills development by providing access to the latest technologies including 3D printing, virtual reality and digital and audio editing, offering space for technology, training and innovation. Study, work and research zones will be distributed through the facility and will provide dedicated quiet workspaces.
