New Kildare library won't be used for political or religious events

The new library, which will be developed at the parochial house in Celbridge, will be closed to religious and political events.

Kildare County Council says this is because of a provision in the guidelines surrounding the use of public library meeting rooms.

The council was responding to a request from Cllr Vanessa Liston that the council “include a dedicated space for municipal district business and constituent meetings in the plans”

for the parochial house.

The guidelines state that ‘’libraries are a democratic space and should not be used for events with a political or religious agenda or anything perceived as such by any fair-minded person.’’

This means it would be “inappropriate to provide a dedicated space for municipal district business and constituent meetings.”
