Kildare town pub dispels rumour that it is being considered to accommodate asylum seekers

Daniel Boland's pub, which is located in Kildare town.

A Kildare town pub has shut down a rumour that it is being considered to accommodate International Protection Applicants (IPAs), also known as asylum seekers.

Back in August of last year, it was announced that Daniel Boland's pub would go under the hammer.

A video which was circulating on social media claimed that the site would be considered to house IPAs.

However, an administrator for the Facebook page Kildare town Resident's Social and Development Group countered these claims on Saturday, January 27 last: "There is a video going around from someone who doesn't live in the town stating that Boland's is to be used to house asylum seekers.

"The person actually states in the video that he doesn't know if its true. No facts to back it up."

They continued: "So until we know more we will not be allowing posts regarding this.

"It could be just to create panic and we don't want to fuel this."

"If anything definite comes of this rumour it will be posted to let people know."

The post was accompanied by a single reply from Geraldine Boland, one of the legal owners of the site.

Ms Boland said: "I would just like to allay everyone’s worries regarding the videos that have been circulating in the last 12 hours; none of it is true.

"While it (the premises) is 'Sale Agreed' at present, we (the legal owners) still hold the keys and no such discussion with us, has taken place at any stage."

She added: "Hope this provides clarity."
