The installation of a rumble strip has been proposed for a junction in the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD).

Fine Gael councillor Kevin Duffy raised the subject of installing a rumble strip on the Barraderra Road near the R445 Kildare Road Junction.

His motion, which was heard at the latest MD meeting on Wednesday, January 17 last, read as follows: "That the council install rumble strips and 'slow bad bend' signs on the Barraderra Road near the R445 Kildare Road Junction, given the frequency of accidents at this bend."

His motion was seconded by his party colleague, Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer.

KCC responded: "The MD office is currently preparing the roads programme including line marking."

"There is an extensive list and line marking is very costly, however, the MD office agree to include (this area) for consideration subject to budget availability," KCC added.

Cllr Kevin Duffy made the suggestion, which was supported by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer.

Cllr Duffy reiterated his concerns to KCC, saying: "Some people seem to either miss the turn, or hit it and end up in a ditch.

"I think that installing a rumble strip would help."

He also said that he welcomed KCC's response.

Cllr Duffy's motion was also supported by Sinn Féin Cllr Noel Connolly, who recalled an incident in which he himself ended up in a ditch while driving through the area around three years ago.

"This area definitely needs action," he told KCC.
