The new Mayor of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) has been revealed, just one day before St Brigid's Day 2024.
Earlier this month, Fianna Fáil councillor Noel Heavey announced that he was stepping down from the position.
Now, at a special meeting involving the MD's local representatives, which took place this morning, it was decided that Fine Gael Cllr Paddy Curran would be the new Mayor.
Cllr Curran's party colleague Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer proposed his nomination, which was uncontested.
The nomination was seconded by another Fine Gael member, Cllr Kevin O'Duffy.
Leas cathaoirleach and Fiana Fáil Cllr Anne Connolly, who chaired the special meeting, congratulated Cllr Curran on his newfound role.
Fine Gael Cllr Paddy Curran is the new Mayor of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.
In a brief speech, Cllr Curran thanked his fellow representatives just before taking up his new position.
Cllr Heavey also wished Cllr Curran 'the very best of luck' as the new Mayor.
"I wish you all the best and a very personal congratulations from my heart," he added.
Annette Aspell, Kildare County Council's Director of Services for Housing and Regeneration, was also present at the meeting, and congratulated Cllr Curran on his success.
Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer also congratulated Cllr Curran.
She added: "I'm proud to be able to work with you."
