KILDARE: Demolition of current school premises to make way for new 1,000 pupil school proposed

The demolition of a school's current premises in order to make way for a new 1,000 pupil school is being sought. 

The Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board (KWETB) has lodged a planning permission application with Kildare County Council to construct the development at the site of St Farnan's Post Primary School in Curryhills, Prosperous.

Specifically, the KWETB is seeking permission for for the demolition of the existing school building, and the provision of a new two-storey, 1,000 pupil school.

This school would comprise of: a four-classroom Special Education Unit, multipurpose hall, general purpose room, general classrooms, specialist classrooms, social areas, library, administration areas, service yards, external stores, covered storage areas for construction studies, toilet and changing facilities and associated ancillary accommodation, all measuring 11077.3 metres squared.

The development would also include: the provision of new site entrances, car parking areas, drop-off areas, new site boundary, new ballcourts, playing pitch, and landscaped external areas.

In addition, planning permission is being sought for all associated site works.

The date received is listed as February 19 last, while the submission-by and due dates are listed as March 24 and April 14 respectively.
