A joint motion heard at the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting has called for the 126 Bus Services to Suncroft be upgraded to a minimum service.
Fianna Fáil councillor Suzanne Doyle and Fine Gael Cllr Kevin Duffy put forward the motion at the meeting, which was held on Wednesday, February 21 last.
Their motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil Cllr Anne Connolly, and also received support from Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender.
Cllr Doyle and Cllr Duffy’s motion reads as follows: "That the council write to the National Transport Authority (NTA) to request that the 126 Bus Services to Suncroft be upgraded to a minimum service as outlined under the Connecting Ireland plan; three times a day, five days a week service in/out of Newbridge as a priority."
Kildare County Council told the councillors in response: "With the members agreement, Kildare County Council will write to the NTA in relation to this motion."
Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Doyle stressed to the council: "This is the type of stuff we need to advance."

Cllr Doyle also commended the work of the local community, as well as Local Link services operating in the area.
She then proposed an amendment to the motion, asking the NTA for timelines and confirmation of said timelines.
After reading out the amended draft, Cllr Doyle’s amendment was approved by all members, and as a result, this new letter is due to be sent to the NTA.
