Politicians welcome €30k funding for Castledermot

As announced by Minister Heather Humphreys today, Castledermot has been identified as one of the 26 towns across Ireland that will develop a Town Centre First Plan as part of Phase Two of the Town Centre First Scheme.

Fine Gael’s Minister Martin Heydon and Cllr. Ivan Keatley have both welcomed the news. Minister Heydon said, “Communities are at the heart of rural Ireland. Town Centre First is all about empowering people to develop a vision for their town that can make it a better place to live, work, invest in and enjoy.

“Castledermot has great potential so this is a great opportunity for the town to come together and develop a plan to build on its current features. Clane was selected under Phase 1 of the plan and its town centre plan has been published today. Cllr. Ivan Keatley and I will continue to work for the development and investment in Castledermot, particularly addressing issues of dereliction and vacancy as is a focus of the Town Centre First scheme.”

Under this second phase of the scheme, 26 towns in Ireland have been selected to receive support up to the value of €30,000 to complete a comprehensive town plan to help develop their town centre.

Also welcoming the news, Senator Fioan O'Loughlin said: “I know Castledermot's Town Team will work to deliver a Plan that will guide and direct investment to maximise Castledermot's strengths while taking account of the unique local challenges, needs and opportunities.

“This investment in a Town Centre First Plan is all about giving the people of Castledermot the tools they need to improve the town and make it a more attractive place in which to live, work, visit and invest.”
