KILDARE: Information needed about greenways and blueways

Minister Eamon Ryan opened the first section of greenway

Information should  be provided about how to use the greenway and blueway walking and cycling routes.

Two councillors - Nuala Killeen and Chris Pender (both Social Democrats) - have called for an information campaign to be “developed and rolled out” by Kildare County Council.

This should clarify how the spaces are to be shared by all users and should be communicated via the media as well as signs.

Points where the routes converge with road users should be highlighted with the aim of supporting the flow of “pedestrians, cyclists and all other road users.”

KCC official Celina Barrett told a county council meeting that it would be premature for it to embark on any changes without consulting other organisations involved with the greenways and blueways. These include the National Transport Authority, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and Waterways Ireland..

Ms Barrett also said the routes cross county boundaries “so there is a need for consistency.”
