The scene at the start of the protest
A peaceful protest is taking place in Naas today against a plan to provide temporary accommodation for between 900 and 1,000 Ukrainian refugees.
Some 200 people, many carrying placards bearing the message Kildare Says No, are walking into the town centre from the Tesco shopping centre at Monread, on the town's outskirts - a distance of about two and a half miles.
It is the second demonstration to take place in the town in as many weeks.
A fortnight ago a similar protest took place from the Naas Retail Park on the opposite end of the town.
A number of gardaí in least four vehicles are at the scene, principally to ensure the safe passage of the marchers along the busy route.
They have expressed concern about the use of a site to provide accommodate for people fleeing the war.
The site is in a rural area situated between the Naas-Newbridge road and Flood’s Cross, a junction on the road leading from the M7 Business Park to Allen Cross.
