How to create a quiet road in a town with lots of traffic

Pressure on for a 'quiet road' to be created in a busy town

The Craddockstown Road, Naas

A rural road in Naas should be designated a “quiet road”.

These are roads where traffic volumes and vehicle speeds are already low.

The features of a “quiet road” include reduced speeds limits as well as signs reminding drivers that the route is used by “non-motorised users.”

Nasa councillor Seamie Moore said the Craddockstown Road should be designated because it is used for amenity walking.

The route leads from Naas to the road passing Punchestown Racecourse and is a traditional walking route to that destination.

Kildare County Council says it is intended to do this on a trial basis this year and similar projects being undertaken at Old Kilcullen and along the canal at Ardclough will “inform” the Craddockstown Road proposal.
