The following Local Property Tax (LPT) nominations were heard at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting on Wednesday, April 17 last:
Fianna Fáil (FF) Cllr Rob Power nominated for €10,000 from LPT funds to go towards this year’s Kildare Derby Festival, on behalf of his colleague Cllr Suzanne Doyle, who was unable to attend the meeting. Cllr Power also seconded the nomination.
Sinn Féin Cllr Noel Connolly asked KCC to amend a previous LPT nomination he had made.
He previously nominated for €500 to go towards the Dara Park Residents Association to be used for landscaping works.
However, Cllr Connolly informed Kildare County Council that such an association does not exist, and he actually meant to allocate the LPT funds to The Grove Residents Association, also for landscaping works.
His nomination was seconded by Fine Gael Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer.
FF Cllr Noel Heavey nominated for €1,000 to go towards the creation of a biodiversity area in O'Connell Drive.
He also nominated for €5,200 to go towards the Liffey Terrace Association, for the provision of steel containers for amenity plants.
These nominations were seconded by his party colleague, Cllr Anne Connolly.
Cllr Anne Connolly also made a number of LPT nominations: she nominated for €5,000 to go towards Rathangan Tidy Towns, for the provision of a storage unit / shed at Rathangan Cemetery.
Cllr Anne Connolly nominated €1,000 towards Milltown Tidy Towns, to go towards expenses for this year’s Canal Festival.
She also nominated for €1,000 to go towards Rathangan Women’s Shed, for the purpose of funding demonstrations and courses throughout the year, and a further €1,000 to Rathangan Boy Scouts, for the purchase of canvas tents.
Lastly, Cllr Anne Connolly nominated for €10,500 to go towards Rathangan GAA Club.
These funds would go towards the removal of trees and the installation of extra car parking spaces, in order to 'facilitate the extra footfall of personnel using the walkway.'
