Dozens of family, friends and neighbours have pledged to once again 'Run for Eve' in the VHI Women's Mini Marathon in a touching tribute to Eve McMahon, who tragically died in June 2022.

The young Celbridge native passed away on June 19th almost two years ago from a rare and aggressive sub-type of Sarcoma Cancer.

In October 2021 at the age of 22, Eve received the devastating diagnosis of Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. Over the course of seven months, Eve underwent intensive treatment under the compassionate care of the staff in St. Vincent's Private Hospital Dublin.

Through it all, Eve showed "remarkable perseverance with unwavering courage". Eve is remembered fondly by all who knew her, including those in her local Kildare community.

In a GoFundMe launched recently, Eve's sister Lucy and friend Ellen announced they are once again taking on the VHI Women's Mini Marathon on Sunday June 2, in honour of her.

Last year, two week's before Eve's first anniversary, a group of over 25 of Eve’s family, friends and neighbors successfully completed the 2023 VHI Women's Mini Marathon in Dublin city centre.

The group raised an incredible €27,000 for Sarcoma Cancer Ireland.

This year, nearly 50 people will be taking part in the 'Run for Eve' fundraiser, which will be raising much-needed funds for Breakthrough Cancer Research Ireland, an Irish medical research charity focused on funding research and scientific solutions for cancer.

Having impressively already surpassed their remarkable milestone of €7,000, the fundraiser is now aiming to reach an ambitious goal of €15,000.

The group have ordered blue commemorative t-shirts with a photo of Eve in preparation for this year's event. For those attending the Mini Marathon this year, keep an eye out for the team proudly wearing them on the day.

Lucy and Ellen concluded the fundraiser thanking those who donated "for joining us in commemorating Eve's memory and supporting an organisation who work tirelessly to improve the lives of people like Eve".
