Jurisdiction refused for juvenile defendant allegedly involved in Kildare vehicle theft by group

The decision to refuse jurisdiction was made by Judge Desmond Zaidan.

A Naas District Court judge decided to refuse jurisdiction in a case which appeared before him on Thursday, May 16 last, which involved a juvenile.

Judge Desmond Zaidan made the decision during the case, which was held in-camera (in private).

He was told by gardaí that the Director of Public Prosecutions indicated for him to deal with the case via summary disposal.

Gardaí alleged that on a date in 2023, the teenager was part of a group of five people who stole a vehicle in County Kildare.

After hearing the allegation, Judge Zaidan refused jurisdiction over the case.

He adjourned the case involving the youth to a date in June, in order to allow time for a book of evidence to be prepared by gardaí.
