A new residential and retail development is being built near the Whitewater Shopping Centre in Newbridge.
An Bord Pleanala has granted permission with conditions.
Dublin based developer Ascot Construction Ltd is behind the project.
Being built is a five to six-storey mixed-use development at the site of the former Newbridge Metal Products Factory on the Athgarvan Road (also known as Military Road).
The two-storey factory will be demolished.
The overall development will comprise of a circa 825 square metres retail unit.
In addition, 46 apartments will be built including: eight one-bed units, 28 two-bed units and 10 three-bed units at first to fifth floor level, along with two communal terraces at fifth floor level, including children's play equipment, seating and landscaping.
Other facilities include a communal room, a bicycle store at ground floor level and solar photovoltaic panels at roof level.
The original designs included 52 surface level car parking spaces along with an ESB substation.
