A new Community First Responder group set up in Kill Village went live on the 28th May.
The group have 24 volunteers locally based in Kill /Johnstown Village and have been trained to handle emergencies in the local area, providing essential care such as CPR in crucial minutes before the National Ambulance Service crew arrive.
They are all trained for Cardiac Arrest, Heart Attack, Stroke and Choking in both adults and children within the community.
Responders aim to arrive in the first vital minutes of the call being placed with the NAS, providing appropriate care including, if required, defibrillation.
They have presently two volunteers training as ‘Trainers for the Group’ and they plan to teach within the community important skills such as CPR and Defibrillation. They will also continue to recruit and train local volunteers as Community First Responders.
Kill CFR lifesaving equipment will be funded through donations from the public and local businesses, group fundraising activities and small grant awards. These fundings will be greatly appreciated for the purchase of First Aid equipment for the responders and training equipment for the group and the community.
They would like to take this opportunity to thank local business owner Michael McQuinlan from Pulse Security who donated their first lifesaving equipment bags, T-shirts and Hi-Vis Vests.
On Friday evening, 7th June, Kill Village Community First Responders had a Quiz Night with family and friends in the Dew Drop Inn to launch the New CFR group which will cover a 3km radius in Kill and Johnstown surrounding areas.
They wish to thank everyone that attended the official night since going live on the 28th May and also to say special thank you to local businesses who donated spot prizes for the night as without their support the evening could not have been a success.
The organising committee also wish to say “well done to all the quiz teams, the evening was full of laughs, smiles and meeting new people while supporting an amazing community”.
