Kildare Animals in Need - Best buddies Tara and Sonas happy in new home

Tara and Sonas are happy in their new home

We took a Bernese Mountain dog into our care recently called Tara, and everyone at the shelter fell in love with this large and beautiful dog.

The breed originated in the Swiss Alps in the canton of Bern and were often called Berners.

They were first bred as an all purpose farm dog to pull carts of milk and cheese, and to drive dairy cattle long distances from the farm to the alpine pastures. They are imposing, but not threatening and get along with the entire family.

They are particularly gentle with children, but they will often become more attached to one lucky human. Shortly after settling in, Tara became very close to a male Golden Retriever called Sonas.

When we advertised Tara for rehoming there was a lot of interest in her, which we expected. When a family came to visit Tara they noticed how very close she was with her kennel mate Sonas and decided to adopt both dogs.

This was a great outcome and both Tara and Sonas are best buddies in their new home and enjoying their new life together.

Our Kitty Cottage is very busy with kittens.

Eleven mother cats came into our care with several injured cats that needed intensive care. Our Foster families have over sixty kittens between them, and these will be ready for re-homing in the coming weeks.

We are so lucky to have such a high standard of veterinary care within the county. The vets and their staff do outstanding work and are amazing supporters of our cat Unit. We could not do this without them.
