Kildare County Council has no regard for pedestrians in the centre of Naas.

“We are so far away from where we need to be,” said Cllr Bob Quinn.

He was complaining about a lack of pedestrian crossings in Poplar Square and at Dublin Road.

He said pedestrian safety needs to be taken much more seriously in the town.

“My fear is we’ll be back here in five years still talking about it,” he told a Naas Municipal District meeting.

Fine Gael councillor Evie Sammon said KCC should deliver promised pedestrian crossings on the Dublin Road - regardless of when a long awaited overall improvement scheme (which will benefit bus users, cyclists and pedestrians)  for Dublin Road actually starts.

But KCC engineer Donal Hodgins told the meeting there is no allocation for these works in 2024. 

He added that KCC is engaging with the National Transport Authority to arrange for funding to be provided.
